Minnesota Degrees Equip Graduates for Minnesota Jobs

The North Star State has a varied economic and educational base. The urban areas are modern and are where the majority of technical and publishing Minnesota jobs are located. Rural MN jobs center around the state's abundant natural resources and beauty.

Economic Overview and Minnesota Careers

Minnesota's economy is resilient as demonstrated by the gain of 42,100 jobs over the one-year period from October 2009 to 2010. This was a 1.6% increase in employment growth and the strongest increase since March 2006.

The highest gains in the job market occurred in professional and business services, mining and logging, manufacturing, educational and health services, leisure and hospitality, information systems, and in trade, transportation, and utilities.

Five of the fastest growing employment sectors, and the median annual wages paid in May 2009, were:

  • Forestry $28,420
  • Farming $25,480
  • Computer services $75,470
  • Printing and publishing $48,730

The median annual wage for all occupations in Minnesota in May 2009 was $35,640.

Education and Career Opportunities in Minnesota

Minnesota schools graduate students with associate's, bachelor's, and master's degrees by the thousands every year. Technical schools, community colleges, and online MN schools offer coursework leading to degrees in majors that equip graduates to enter the state's work force in even a tough economy. MN degrees are awarded for studies pertaining to all of the state's major occupations.

Online MN schools are an asset many students take advantage of. In less densely populated areas of the state there are few colleges. Distance learning opportunities bring MN jobs and career opportunities within reach.
