Online Graphic Design Degrees and Careers

A graphic designer's main goal is to communicate an idea or message to a specific group of people using a specific visual methodology. Most graphic designers gain their ability through post-secondary education. A degree in graphic design could open doors to a variety of different industries within the computer information sciences.

Aside from working with advertising and marketing agencies, opportunities exist in television, video, print production, computer software development, the World Wide Web, corporate communications and information sciences.

Like most design professions, graphic design combines practical ability in computer and traditional design techniques with natural artistic talent. Graphic designers must take a variety of visual communication courses before entering a job in graphic design. Coursework includes computer technology, color theory, typography, illustration, art history, and photography.

Graphic designers should also be able to solve problems, communicate effectively, and analyze cultural, social and psychological factors to develop the most effective method of reaching a specific goal.
