Online Customer Service Degrees and Careers
As a customer service representative, you're the face of the company and the first point of a customer's contact. You have an enormous opportunity to make a customer's experience the best they've ever had--or have them talking for years about how they'll never do business with "your" company. Most customer service jobs involve working out of call centers, and representatives need to be comfortable performing basic computer operations. As part of the customer service job, you'll be given extensive training specific to your own company and industry, but degrees in customer service jobs imply a certain level of potential competency to an employer.
Education and Career Opportunities in Customer Service
At a minimum, most customer service jobs require a high school diploma, with many requesting representatives who have an associate's or bachelor's degree. The good news is that once you secure a customer service job, you can take online degree courses in computers or business to advance your customer service career.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that customer service jobs are expected to grow by 18 percent between 2008 and 2018. The potential for growth is estimated to provide about 400,000 new jobs over the next decade.
It's a career that has promising financial earnings potential. The median wage for a customer service representative in 2009 was $30,290 with the lowest 10 percent earning $19,410 and the highest 90 percent earning $49,020.
