Finance is one of the most diverse industries in the country, offering a range of finance jobs in the private and public sectors. From high-flying financial analysts on Wall Street to the modest loan officer at your neighborhood bank; from the accountant who does your taxes to the finance director at the local school district, finance, if you will, makes the world go 'round. Job opportunities are plentiful and the pay is often generous for high-level positions in business and government.
Most colleges and universities offer accredited degree programs in economics, accounting, and related areas of study. Opportunities to earn online degress in finance also are plentiful. Salaries vary depending on job descriptions. Personal financial consultants, who help clients make investment, tax and insurance decisions, earned an annual average of $69,050 in 2008, according to the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics. Certified Public Accountants, meanwhile, who require similar skills as financial advisers, averaged $59,430. Salaries increase depending on size and scope of the positions. Both occupations are expected to grow between 20 and 30 percent by 2018, according to the bureau.
