Online Project Management Degrees and Careers

The demand for skilled project managers is at "a critically urgent level," according to the Project Management Institute. As projects swell in the Middle East and Asia, the accrediting institution reports that the pool of credentialed talent is not keeping pace. The PMI predicts a global shortage of six million skilled project management professionals by 2013.

Trained and certified project management specialists are fundamental for the successful completion of workplace projects, according to the PMI, which commended the British Airports Authority and Headland Project Management Ltd. The team managed to renovate the main terminal at London's Heathrow Airport without shutting down access to 20 million passengers that pass through every year. It also finished 10 weeks before schedule, saving $20 million.

Education & Career Opportunities in Project Management

In 2000, the PMI had accredited 12 master's degrees in project management. Today that number surpasses 300. With an MBA in the field, you learn how to lead and collaborate; achieve objectives and manage limitations; and solve real business situations. You may apply project management processes in engineering, information technology, healthcare, accounting, and auditing jobs. Management analysts conduct projects for a variety of companies. The number of jobs in this area is expected to rise 24 percent between 2008 and 2018 and mean annual management analyst wages have been estimated at $84,650, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
