The highest paying employers of travel agents include the professional management companies, scientific research and development groups, and the sightseeing transportation industry.

In 2009, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual wage in the travel and tourism industry was $30,790. The scientific research and development industry paid the highest mean wage that year at $45,570.
