Health and safety engineers. Health and safety engineers, who earn a mean annual salary of $75,810 per year (mining safety engineers make $82,080), generally must have a bachelor's degree to launch their career. Many colleges offer two- and four-year degrees in engineering technology.
Occupational health and safety specialists. Occupational health and safety specialists, earn a mean annual salary of $64,200, need a bachelor's degree. Entry-level technician work, however, only takes an associate's degree or certificate but it may be waived for job candidates with great experience. Employment in this field is expected to grow rapidly between 2008 and 2018. Those familiar with more than one health and safety specialty should fare the best.
Loss prevention agents. Loss prevention agents pull in a mean annual salary of $47,130 per year. Safety and loss prevention degrees typically are not required to enter this profession. This work, however, attracts a lot of people, so competition for jobs can be tough.
