Public awareness of the field of nutrition is increasing -- largely due to the epidemic of obesity and related health issues such as diabetes. Growth in nutrition jobs is projected to grow by 9 percent between 2008 and 2018. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual wage for nutritionists and dietitians was $52,150 as of May 2009. Median incomes ranged from $49,340 in special food services to $53,560 in outpatient care centers. The American Dietetic Association put the top annual median wage in 2007 at $66,061 for nutritionists working in education and research.
