Educational Administration blurb

Degrees in educational administration are tailored to prepare you for the smooth and successful operation of an educational institution. From preschools to college universities, educational administrators are the ones who handle the behind-the-scenes policies and procedures that keep the school running like a well-oiled machine.

Education and Career Opportunities in Educational Administration

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), most educational administrators start out as teachers and work their way up, earning a master's degree or doctoral degree. Some teachers might move into a limited administration position, such as assistant principal, in order to gain experience before moving further up the educational administration ladder.

The BLS projects growth of educational administration jobs by 8 percent from 2008 to 2018, or about as fast as the average for all occupations. However, retirements in the industry and fewer applicants for some administrative positions is expected to create more opportunities for educational administration jobs.

Those with degrees in educational administration often choose to focus on one educational level. In 2009, those who worked with preschool and child care centers made a median income of $48,170, while those who moved to the elementary or secondary level made $87,390 per year. Those who focused on post-secondary education made $95,340, and those who worked at all other levels made $80,140 per year.
