Online Architecture & Landscape Design Degrees and Careers

The wide-ranging field of landscape architecture allows for some of the greatest diversity in all the design professions. Whether they work in designing small housing projects, huge stretches of green space and city parks, or in planning layouts for zoos, office buildings, and urban malls, landscape architects are committed to enhancing the natural environment.

Depending upon the size of the project, landscape architects may be deeply involved in architectural design of buildings, roadways, storm-water systems, construction materials, irrigation, and natural vegetation preservation. Some become urban ecologists, concerned with natural restoration and vegetation renewal.

Many prepare for their careers in landscape architecture at dedicated colleges for architecture, others attend vocational schools, and some learn on the job. Depending upon the college for architecture, students augment their learning with courses in biology, botany, fine art, and mechanical engineering. Certified landscape architects find roles with design firms, government agencies, landscaping companies, garden shops, and in home-based landscape service.
