Online Court Reporting Degrees and Careers

Court reporters provide an essential function in a courtroom or legal proceeding. They record verbatim, what each person says during the proceeding. According to the Florida Court Reporter Association, court reporters offer the best, most accurate, most efficient and most widely available method for reliably and instantly capturing and integrating the spoken word into a comprehensive and accurate information base; this is achieved through strong court reporter training.

Court reporter training includes stenography, voice writing or transcribing. Court reporter certification varies from state to state, as do certification programs. While many court reporters do work in courtrooms, many court reporters actually work outside the courtroom.

As a court reporter, you may work freelance, for lawyers who need transcripts of depositions and other people who need an exact record of an event. Court reporter training also prepares you to work in closed-captioning for the hearing impaired, providing real time transcription of news broadcasts and other television programs.
