Higher Education

Higher education jobs typically involve teaching or administration in colleges, universities, and vocational schools. Teaching in higher education includes

  • Creating lesson plans
  • Communicating with students
  • Preparing, administering, and grading tests

Most educators in higher education jobs teach in colleges or universities and teach within a specific subject area. Teachers working in higher education need to keep current in their field of expertise and spend time on research and networking.

Education and Career Opportunities in Higher Education

The education required for higher education jobs ranges from expertise in a given field to advanced degrees in higher education, including master's and doctorate degrees. Most likely, a master's degree is the minimum degree required for teaching or administration positions at campus-based or online colleges and universities. In competitive schools, candidates with doctoral degrees in higher education may be chosen over those with master's.
