Online Master Degree Programs in Social Work & Human Services

A social worker can wear many hats during the course of a career. Depending upon the agency where they toil, social workers provide psychological counseling; they help people obtain community resources, training, and jobs; and they provide direct assistance with transportation, housing, and financial planning.

A social work job requires professional college preparation or training, along with a devotion to help others, a strong tolerance for red tape, and a commitment to achieve the public good.

The common minimum requirement for entry to a social work job is the completion of an undergraduate degree in social work, however many undergrads with psychology or sociology majors find work at city, county, and state social agencies.

Social workers with graduate degrees in the field can take administrative and management positions with agencies or non-profit organizations. Some run support groups, arrange foster homes or adoptions, address family planning issues, work in food programs, and administer public welfare agencies.
