Web Design

Web design is a relatively new and exciting field. Web designers are responsible for creating the content, layout, security and maintenance of websites you regularly visit. Over the years, websites have upgraded from simple text sites that work with a dial-up connection, to modern sites that rely heavily on real-time response, interactivity and strong graphic features, including videos. Web design requires artistic ability, attention to detail, critical thinking, some writing, and software knowledge among other skills.

Education & Career Opportunities in Web Design

Most web design jobs require a degree, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. By degree, 43 percent have a bachelor's degree, 27 percent have some college experience, and 20 percent have associate's degrees in Web design. Related job experience helps as well, but bachelor's degrees in Web design are preferred. Web design degrees are offered at both campus-based and online colleges. Online degrees in Web design are avenues for professionals looking to expand their knowledge without sacrificing time away from their current job.

Web design, development, and administration are hot career choices, as they should experience significant growth. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts Web design jobs to grow 7 to 13 percent by 2018, with a median annual wage of $77,010.
